“With the goal of reaching 11 million visitors by 2024, we continue to work together to reach new records. That is the reason why we are in Mexico again, to continue strengthening our ties with tour operators and travel agents.”
At a full house in Mexico City yesterday the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, held the second Roadshow in his plan to conquer Mexicans to travel and enjoy the different Dominican tourist destinations.
During the meeting, the Dominican Minister of Tourism made a tour of the recent history of the local tourism industry since the great pandemic crisis and the actions that allowed the Dominican Republic to recover from the fall and position itself as a leader in tourism in the Caribbean and become a “fashionable destination in the world”.
“With the goal of reaching 11 million visitors by 2024, we continue to work together to reach new records. That’s the reason we are in Mexico again, to continue strengthening our ties with tour operators and travel agents,” said Collado.
Supported by a large screen on which videos were shared about the natural beauty and cultural attractions of the different destinations that the Dominican Republic has developed, the Minister of Tourism showed Punta Cana, Miches, Samaná, Santo Domingo Colonial, Puerto Plata and Punta Bergantín, among other places where Mexicans can decide to go on vacation.
“Very good afternoon. It is a great honor to be with you this afternoon and we apologize because we have a full house, there are people outside for whom we placed a screen that is transmitting live and that simply reflects the love, the affection that Mexicans have for a paradise that is in the Caribbean called the Dominican Republic, “said the official to greet on behalf of the President of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader, on his behalf, as Minister of Tourism and on behalf of all Dominicans.
Collado highlighted that in 2023, the Dominican Republic received 90 thousand Mexican tourists and that as of June of this year, they have welcomed 55 thousand, projecting to reach 115 thousand by the end of 2024.
The meeting yesterday afternoon in Mexico City was attended by María Isabel Castillo Báez, Dominican ambassador to Mexico, Patricia Mejía deputy minister of destinations of the Ministry and Mr. José Zapata VP North America & LATAM of Aeroméxico, representatives of the diplomatic corps of the Dominican Republic accredited in Mexico, as well as prominent leaders of the allied tourism sector and representatives of the Mexican tourism sector in Mexico City, Cancún, Juárez and other tourist territories.
Collado showed the novelties of Dominican tourist destinations.
During the Roadshow which opened with a beautiful song by Dominican singer-songwriter Covi Quintana, he went on to present the Dominican Republic’s destination loyalty program called Do Travel Rewards for travel agents selling the Dominican Republic destination, highlighting the importance of the sector with the information that in 2023 out of every one hundred visitors who came to the Dominican Republic, 32 did so through a tour operator and/or travel agent.
“Today I will talk to you a little bit about what the Dominican Republic has done in the recovery of tourism, a story that has gone around France, Germany, England, the United States, Canada, and also came to Mexico. The story of what a small country that is on the same path where the sun rises in the midst of the fear of the pandemic, decided to move forward and see the glass half full and not half empty and play for hope to return to normality, “said David Collado to give way to a video report that summarizes in striking images the story referred to.
When talking about the different places where you can vacation in the Dominican Republic, he spoke of Bávaro Punta Cana, highlighting that those who travel to these destinations in the eastern Dominican Republic have 561 restaurants, more than 20 casinos, 14 nightclubs, more than 50 thousand hotel rooms. A little to the right, they will arrive at a new destination in full development, Miches, where modern resorts are being inaugurated.
He showed the charms of Samaná and Las Terrenas, destination of mountains with great vegetation, large green areas and “extremely beautiful blue” beaches in which, according to an anecdote of the minister, was the place where Jennifer Lopez decided to break up with the Dominican Alex Rodriguez.
He showed the historical primacies of the first Santo Domingo of America and when speaking of Puerto Plata, he recalled that the history of America began there because Christopher Columbus arrived there, a region where tourism also began in the Dominican Republic.
He spoke of the Punta Bergantin project in Puerto Plata and the hotels already in the pipeline and highlighted the promotion of Cabarete as the capital of waves and winds.
“Thank you for being here, taking out part of your agenda, of your time to come and see this presentation of the Dominican Republic,“ said Collado, stressing that every tourist that travel agents and tour operators send to the country means jobs, economic development and progress”.
