The Chamber of Deputies approved as a matter of urgency and in two consecutive discussions a bill that seeks to create the Cabo Rojo Tourism Corporation, which will have private financial contributions and will allow for a better management of tourism in Pedernales.
The new Cabo Rojo Tourism Corporation will be organized as a corporation and will be attached to the Ministry of the Presidency. Its essential mission will be to develop and operate the service, hotel and commercial infrastructure in the Cabo Rojo Tourism Project.
According to the piece of legislation, the promotion of the tourism project will be done through the construction, execution of projects, business, investment, commercialization and administration of the project.
Article 7 of the legislative document establishes that the commercial corporation will be of mixed capital and emphasizes that the funds invested by the State will never be less than 51%, in order to “avoid” privatization.
The Cabo Rojo Tourism Corporation will have its own patrimony, legal status and will have the capacity to contract commercial and contractual debts.
“The General Directorate of Public-Private Alliances will adapt the purpose and scope of the Pro-Pedernales Trust to the new organizational and operational reality established in this law,” the approved bill specifies.
The bill had been in Congress since October 2023, when it was deposited in the Senate. There, it was approved twice, as required by the regulations, and then it was forwarded to the Lower House.
The deputies studied it for five months and decided to approve it quickly in two readings to prevent the bill from perishing, according to Diario Libre.
