DR Athletics to participate in championship in Colombia

The delegation of the Dominican Republic in athletics leaves today for Colombia, where it will participate during the weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, in the National Championship of Seniors U-18 and U-23, in Ibague.

The news was announced yesterday by the president of the Dominican Federation of Athletics Associations, Gerardo Suero Correa.

He noted that these athletes will go with the contribution of funds from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the Cali Games, Colombia and the Creating Olympic Dreams Program (CRESO).

He said that Candida Asencio, vice president of the Federation, will be the team delegate, as will Hugo Duran, vice president of the Northern Region.

“Our athletes will arrive in Colombia well trained and with high expectations of returning triumphant,” said Correa.

The bulk of Dominican athletes will be headed by the stellar medalists Marileidy Paulino, in the 200 and 400 meters; Ana José Tima, in the triple jump; Anabel Medina and Milagros Durán, in the 400 meters; Rosa A. Santana, in the shot put; Fiordaliza Cofil, in the 200 and 400 meters, Liranyi Alonso, in the 100 and 200 meters and Matha Méndez in the 100 and 200 meters.

The men’s team is headed by Yancarlos Martínez in the 100 and 200 meters; Lidio Andrés Féliz in the 200 and 400 meters; Christopher Valdez in the 100 meters and José González in the 100 and 200 meters. Yohandrys Andujar will also compete in 100 and 200 meters.

Women: Marileidy Paulino in 200 and 400 meters flat. Ana José Tima, in triple jump; Anabel Medina 400 meters flat; Rosa A. Santana, in shot put; Liranyi Alonso 100 and 200 meters flat and Milagros Duran 400 meters flat.
