During the Fitur 2024 fair, Banco Popular Dominicano received recognition from Iberia airline as the most outstanding corporate company in Latin America in 2023, for its support as a strategic ally in the Caribbean.
Banco Popular is the first company from the DR to obtain this distinction from Iberia, which was awarded in the pavilion that the airline has set up in this 44th edition of the Fitur tourism fair.
Only three other Latin American companies have received this year’s recognition from the Spanish airline.
The award was presented by Marina Colunga, Iberia’s commercial director for Latin America, who highlighted the “great teamwork for common objectives” carried out by the financial organization, the main historical financier of tourism in the DR.
Juan Manuel Martín de Oliva, vice-president of the Tourism Business Area of Banco Popular, thanked the bank for the distinction and expressed his pride at being awarded by a company with which it shares institutional values and the common objective of promoting tourism.
At the award ceremony, Martín de Oliva was accompanied by the executive vice president of Communications, Reputation and Responsible Banking, José Mármol, and the vice president of Corporate Relations and Responsible Banking, Mariel Bera.
As of December 2023, Banco Popular closed with a tourism loan portfolio of US$1.35 billion. According to the Central Bank, the bank’s market share in the tourism sector is equivalent to 38.2%, although this figure only includes loans to hotels, and does not include those for complementary services or tourism-related infrastructure.
