The artist performed at the National Theater
Although it seems that the essential requirement to be a queen is to come from the monarchy, you only need to have more than 50 years in music, be born in Puerto Rico and be named Edna María Nazario Figueroa or popularly known as Ednita Nazario.
This was demonstrated by the interpreter of “A que no te vas” on Saturday night at her sold-out concert, “La Reina”, at the Main Hall of the National Theater, where sensitivity, passion, sensuality, gratitude and joy accompanied her for more than an hour of show.
“I have had a very close relationship with this country, the first foreign country I visited as a child, the first time I left Puerto Rico was to come here to sing… That relationship that began when I was just a child has been evolving and developing over time,” she said with tears in her eyes.
Sitting on a white replica of a throne chair, dressed in red and black, like a queen, Ednita Nazario began her concert performing the song “Quiero que me hagas el amor”. From that moment, 8:42 pm, she found an audience willing to sing and express their love for her as was the case of a man who after his courage to shout “I love you”, got the Puerto Rican artist to invite him on stage and also express his love for “being a man who dares”.
“Todavía”, “No te mentía”, “Como antes”, “Atada a tu volcán”, were some of the 28 songs that this artist sang with her Dominican audience.
The singer-songwriter did not need many details on stage to captivate the audience. Alongside her, two guitarists, a pianist, a bass player, a drummer, two backing singers, one of them Dominican, five dancers and the same number of screens that set the scene for images after each song.
A moment of great emotion was the appearance of the Dominican singer and writer Frank Ceara, who accompanied her in the song “No me mires así”, written by him for the Puerto Rican.
“It is a privilege for me to have the opportunity to sing songs by one of the most important composers that this land has given,” Ednita told him.
The evening not only featured songs from her more than 20 productions, the moment was also propitious to pay tribute to the shared history between Ednita Nazario and the music of the Dominican Republic.
“Our relationship is a long-lasting relationship and the Dominican Republic always and forever holds a very special place in my heart, not only for the work and music, but for the great friends that I have been able to cultivate over time in this land that has given me so much love along the way,” she said before beginning to interpret, while the flags of the country and Puerto Rico were visible on the screens, “Por Amor”, “Quisqueya linda”, “Burbujas de amor” and “Si tú te vas”, the latter two by Juan Luis Guerra.
Minutes before closing this concert produced by Skypro, Ednita Nazario thanked everyone who in one way or another made her participation at the National Theater possible, including the workers.
“I am an open, loving and happy woman,” were her last words to the Dominican public, before the curtains closed.
The “La Reina” tour has been presented in the United States, Costa Rica, Panama and Puerto Rico.
