The Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos Echavarría, swore in cardiologist Víctor Elías Atallah Lajam as the new Minister of Health on Thursday.
During the swearing-in ceremony, held at the National Palace, Santos Echavarría wished him the best of luck and emphasized that the current incumbent has the full support of the government of President Luis Abinader in everything he needs.
“I want to take this opportunity to recognize Dr. Daniel Rivera, former minister and next senator of the province of Santiago, who clearly also did an excellent job in his functions and it is extremely interesting, because we had a minister who not only had the skills of the position, but, above his technical qualities, were his human qualities, which really served him well in his functions and will be much more useful in his new project,” said Santos Echavarría.
In this sense, the official emphasized that the new Minister of Public Health has these same characteristics and human qualities, which he described as an honor that people like this serve in favor of the Dominican society.
The current Minister of Public Health, Víctor Elías Atallah Lajam, thanked President Luis Abinader for the appointment. He also expressed that from the Ministry of Public Health he will work as a team with the other instructions of the Government, to support as much as possible.
He also thanked the former Minister of Health, Daniel Rivera, for all his teachings and highlighted his technical and human qualities.
Meanwhile, Rivera wished him the best of success and reiterated that Atallah Lajam knows everything he has to do because, in addition, he belongs to the Health Cabinet headed by Vice President Raquel Peña.
Present at the swearing-in ceremony were journalist Joan M. Leyba Mejía; Alan David Estévez, in charge of the Direction of User Services Management at the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance, and other authorities of the Ministry.

Victor Elias Atallah Lajam is a doctor, graduated Magna Cum Laude in Medicine from the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (Intec), with Postgraduate studies in Cardiology, nuclear cardiology and interventional cardiology from Lenox Hill Hospital (USA); certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Nuclear Cardiology; certified by the board of the American College of Cardiology of the United States.
In addition, founder of the first Nuclear Medicine program of the Center for Diagnostic and Advanced Medicine and Medical Conferences and Telemedicine (Cedimat) and co-author of numerous publications related to his specialty.
