Cabo Rojo: Iberostar and Hyatt hotels rise

The projections of turning Pedernales into a tourist destination that represents the southern region is going full speed ahead with the progress of the construction of the first hotels in the area.

The work on the structure of the Iberostar hotel is already up to its fourth level, with a projected 580 rooms when it is ready, in addition to the amenities that the property will offer.

This was informed by Sigmund Freund, General Director of Public-Private Partnerships (DGAPP), who also said that the Inclusive Collection Part of World of Hyatt hotel, of approximately 520 rooms and possibly operating under the Secrets brand, is in similar conditions, as they expect to be operational by the end of this year 2024 and early Cabo Rojo Hoteles2025.

“We are working hard to see if by the end of this year, at least, we can partially open one of the hotels,” he added.

It is estimated that between the two constructions, which are part of the first stage of the project and which is focused on the North American market, there will be an investment of US$240 million.

Freund informed arecoa.com that the schedule that the entity is keeping together with the hotel chains is that from January to June 2025 three of the hotels announced in the first phase will be ready. The other hotel brands are: Hilton, Marriott, Sunwing and Karisma Hotels & Resort.

The companies awarded for the construction of the first two hotels are the consortiums Therrestra-Estel and Cocaro Development.

For the Pedernales Tourism Development Project, through the public-private partnership modality, under the responsibility of the Fideicomiso Pro-Pedernales, the construction of 4,700 rooms is projected in the first phase, of the 12,000 rooms contemplated for the development over a period of 10 years.
