DR hotels full: Easter Week coincides with high demand

After a record year in visitor arrivals in the RD and maintaining a good occupancy rate in the different tourist centers of the country, Holy Week 2024 is shaping up to be one of the best, although challenging.

This was indicated to arecoa.com by the president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism (Asonahores), David Llibre, who also said that during the holiday, hotel occupancy at the general level is shaping up to be 99%.

“We have a great challenge because it has been an extremely successful high season and Easter falls early in the year, and when it falls in March and is combined with a high occupancy of foreigners, who are inside the hotels, we have very little to emerge and we are already completely full,” he added.

The executive gave as an example that in the area of Juan Dolio, occupancy has remained, from January to date, above 90%. Puerto Plata has shown figures as of February of 65% occupancy. “This figure is much better than what had been experienced in previous years”, and so is the whole territory. Punta Cana, which is the area with the highest flow of visitors, is also almost at full capacity.

Hotels Full DRFor the full occupancy for the major week, Llibre recalled the great investment that is being made in new rooms and that are being developed in the traditional and emerging tourist poles.

“For this year 2024 we expect to add 3,000 rooms and if we talk about the next three years it would be about 9,000 which is the projection based on the authorized projects and those under construction,” he added.

He recalled that there are also hotels being remodeled and that their rooms will be back on the operating list.

The president of Asonahores also indicated that the goal is to continue growing with the support of investors who have bet on Dominican tourism due to the combination of factors at the level of legalization to establish their developments.
