The Music Festival will be held this month

The objective is to support and provide a platform for emerging artists to present their projects to a new audience.

Similar to how it is held in France, the Dominican Republic Music Festival is an event that reaches everyone. This 19th edition will be held in the cities of Santo Domingo, Santiago, Las Terrenas and Punta Cana, from June 17 to 25.

The announcement was made during a meeting at the Alliance Française of Santo Domingo, organizer of this festival with the support of the French Embassy in the Dominican Republic.

Brigitte Veyne, from the French Embassy, Rafael Félix, Minister of Youth, Marion Lecardonnel, director of Alliance Française and Laura González, in charge of Culture Alliance Française, revealed the details that will characterize this festival that gathers hundreds of artists and thousands of spectators every year in more than 120 countries and 700 cities around the world.

The objective is to support and provide a platform for emerging artists to present their projects to a new audience. It is also about allowing a young audience to discover new forms of music and activities that develop their creative abilities, all this through a playful and artistic space that awakens interest in music and encourages artistic language as a means of expression, said Lecardonnel.

Starting at 3:00 in the afternoon on Saturday, June 17, the event will begin at the Alliance Française of Santo Domingo, with the Fiesta de la Música Academy. It will feature a program of activities around the musical art, with introductory workshops on guitar, piano and singing, said Gonzalez.

There will also be musical stories, hip-hop battle, initiation to electronic music and concerts by the Patronato Nacional de Ciegos, pedagogical concert with the Music Corner school and jazz by Jordi Massalles and Tiempo Libre, among others.

A proposal to enjoy

The Music Festival will feature the local participation of Fundamentar, Duluc y Palo Nuevo, Mache Mache, La Doncella del Acordeón, Dahlias and Séptimo Invitado and more. There will also be a “Silent Disco” session in which several DJs will perform electronic music simultaneously.

The closing will be the presentation of the French electronic music DJ, Pedro del Son.

In Las Terrenas, the French-Cuban singer Raul Paz, who is a representative of World Music, will be performing. Paz will be in concert at Las Establas de Nicolas in Las Terrenas Park at 7:00 PM; while on Sunday, June 18 he will be in Santo Domingo at the Alliance Française, in a concert with the classic rock group Platanao, Hope on a String with jazz and blues genres and Jazz Duet with classic and improvised jazz, scheduled from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

In order to celebrate the official day of the Fiesta de la Música, June 21, for the second consecutive time, concerts will be held in the Santo Domingo subway and cable car. On this occasion, artists of different musical genres will surprise users at various times and stations with live music.

On Friday, June 23, it will continue in Santiago, with the presentation of Pedro del Son at the Teatrón Bar at 10:00 PM; and the following day at Caciba Rock and Roll Bar in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo. To close this edition, on Sunday, June 25, the Fiesta de la Música moves for the first time to the city of Punta Cana, where Pedro del Son will bring French electronica to the Eastern zone of the country at Soles Bar, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
