This Tuesday, the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic reached the goal of 10 million visitors, just with the arrival of the Californian Ariana Guilak, who was received by Minister David Collado and by the tourism entrepreneur and founder of the Punta Cana Group, Frank Rainieri, with a commemorative sash, a bouquet of flowers and a Dominican flag.
Ariana Guilak traveled to the DR with her boyfriend, not knowing that she would become the passenger who would mark the historical milestone of tourism in the country.
According to her profile published in the “Mientras siembras” Environmental Health Program, Guilak has a master’s degree in Environmental Policy and Management from the University of Denver and a bachelor’s degree in General Science from the University of Oregon, where she concentrated in Environmental Science.
In her native California, she has held positions such as coordinator of the referenced “While You Plant” Environmental Health Program, 2021-2022, in which she worked to engage businesses and investors to protect consumer safety from environmental contaminants, especially harms caused by agricultural practices.
Ariana previously worked with other non-profit organizations, conducting research and promoting environmental health through education.
Most recently she worked in conservation research and as a freelance environmental writer and researcher.
In an article published in March 2022, Guilak explained that pesticide-intensive agriculture not only poses a significant health risk to farmers, farm-adjacent communities and consumers, but also threatens the climate resilience of farms by reducing the soil’s ability to store water and carbon.
