Gloria de los Ángeles Treviño Ruiz (Monterrey, 15 February 1968), known artistically as Gloria Trevi, is a Mexican singer, actress, producer, songwriter, model and businesswoman.
She was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León and lived during her childhood in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas. In 1985 she moved to Mexico City to begin her artistic career where she met producer and arranger Sergio Andrade, who formed the musical group Boquitas Pintadas. Four years later, under Andrade’s guidance, she released her debut album ¿Qué hago aquí?, distributed by BMG Ariola.
In the 1990s, he made his film debut with three movies: Pelo suelto (1991), Zapatos viejos (1993) and Una papa sin catsup (1995). He finished the decade with five albums with almost five million sales.
In 1997, she retired from the stage after her TV show XETU Remix. Some time later, the singer and her manager Andrade disappeared from the media again, while in Chihuahua a criminal complaint was filed by the parents of a 17-year-old girl named Karina Yapor, who belonged to the singer’s work team and had disappeared along with the singer, her producer and other young women. The arrest of the couple took place in January 2000 by the Rio de Janeiro police, where Gloria spent three years in prison. The singer was acquitted of the crime by the Mexican justice system and released in 2004.
During the 2000s, she released five albums and returned to the stage with five extensive international tours. It is estimated that she has sold 15 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling Latin artists. She has been awarded with some music awards such as: Billboard, ASCAP, BMI, Premio lo Nuestro, Latin AMAS, among others. Gloria Trevi has left her legacy in the history of Latin pop, being one of the greatest exponents and referents of this genre in the world. After two decades, in 2013 she resumed her acting career and starred in the Televisa telenovela Libre para amarte, produced by Emilio Larrosa.
