Jean Montero joins the program “De Vuelta al Barrio”

The new Dominican basketball star Jean Montero will work in the program “De Vuelta al Barrio”, developed by the Ministry of Interior and Police to rescue values and keep young people away from vices and delinquency.

A native of the Villa Juana sector in the capital, he has played in sports clubs since he was 10 years old and has developed as a promising basketball player, thanks to his discipline and perseverance. He was an important part of the Dominican team that participated in the Basketball World Cup. He now plays for Real Betis Baloncesto of the Spanish League and has been designated Best Young Player of the Endesa League 2022-2023.

He made the commitment during a visit to Minister Jesús Vásquez Martínez, who spoke to him about the need for young people who have managed to develop in sports to go to the neighborhoods and tell their story of overcoming, in order to serve as an example to the new generations.

He indicated that it is important to rescue social values, especially in young people, since this is the only guarantee to recover confidence in the people and restore tranquility to the population.

During the meeting, Montero pointed out that he feels proud to represent the country in international scenarios and emphasized that he has received great motivation from basketball stars such as Kobe Bryant, whose games he watched as a child and wanted to match him.

He urged young people to follow the right path, to say no to delinquency and “bad choirs”, to continue in sports and to pursue their goals, especially with education, which is the most important thing.

He valued as transcendental the program “De Vuelta al Barrio” already installed in the National District; Villa Hermosa, in La Romana; Santiago and Santo Domingo. The same will be taken to all the territory, because it is of great support, in prevention of scourges and integration to sport disciplines.

Montero was accompanied by his father, Agustín Montero; the glory of Dominican basketball Eduardo Gómez, and the director of Sports of the National Police, Colonel Jacobo Mateo Moquete.
