Work progresses on sports center and clubhouse in Ozama expansion area

With an investment of more than 75 million pesos, the Dominican Government, through the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec), is making progress in the construction of the Sports Center and Club House of the Ozama expansion.

“This is a work that has long been demanded by the residents of the sector and since my arrival at the ministry we reached an agreement, which has allowed us to witness today the erection of a sports center that will soon be the center of activities in the Ozama expansion,” he said.

He revealed that the court will serve for the assembly of a superior basketball tournament, but that the complex includes areas for the practice also of volleyball, combat sports and others, in which the Ozama by tradition has been the cradle of important figures who have shone in different disciplines.

“It is good to know the spirit that reigns throughout the community, where meetings are being held between representatives of the church, neighborhood councils, athletes and others to distribute tasks,” he said.

He explained that the work, in addition to the sports roof, includes a three-level clubhouse, for which excavations have already begun, because there is an interest that the whole family can enjoy these facilities.

“The engineers told me that in about 20 days the metal structures will begin to be erected, so it is expected that by next March the sports center will be roofed, which will give way to the work on the interiors,” said the minister.

The founders speak

The sportsman Fausto Severino commented that there is a group of former athletes and sports leaders who have joined forces to motivate the completion of this work, which has been a dream of the whole community.

“When we spoke to the minister, he was always ready and got the support of the central government, with Luis Abinader at the head, and a magnificent team has been formed that any institution would like to have,” said Severino.

He highlighted the integration of the president of the club, Daniel -Rico- Dayeh Roque, Manuel Adames, Fernando Pérez Pezzoti, Luis González and Rafael Rodríguez, among others, who have formed a driving team for the progress of the work.

“We are going to give participation, to the colleges and schools, to the churches, to the neighborhood councils, to the merchants, to the businessmen and to the families in general”, assured the also chief of staff of the Miderec.

Meanwhile, the president of the club, Dayeh Roque, also guaranteed that the new sports center and clubhouse will bring together the entire community, because it will be a place where parents will see that their children are safe.

“We are going to take care of the kids and instruct them in such a way that they do not get lost in the streets; that is the idea, to recover the ensanche for healthy and productive activities”, highlighted Rico.

He announced that there will be a board of trustees that will be in charge of the good maintenance of the facilities and of covering the fixed costs and the personnel that will work there, because it will also be a source of employment for the residents of the sector.
