The agreements signed by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, at the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) 2022 are already beginning to bear immediate fruit, with the arrival of an inaugural flight of the EW Discover airline from Frankfurt, Germany to Puerto Plata.
The A330-300 aircraft, with a capacity of 300 seats, will have a frequency of two flights per week, Wednesdays and Saturdays, and is part of the agreements signed by Minister Collado at FITUR.
As part of this inaugural flight, the Office of Tourism Promotion (OPT) in Germany organized a press trip “Experience Puerto Plata”, with journalists specializing in tourism, to learn about the destination and offer this outbound market first-hand information about Quisqueya’s tourist attractions.
Eurowings Discover is part of the Lufthansa Group and began operations on July 24, 2021 and since August 9 of last year flies to Punta Cana with a daily frequency, reaffirming the preference of the German market in the Dominican Republic.
The German journalists arrived at Gregorio Luperón airport in Puerto Plata on EW Discover flight 4Y006, which was received by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Dominican Republic, Volker Pellet; Roberto Henríquez, Vice Minister of Quality of the Ministry of Tourism; Marcel Chmielorz, CFO EW Discover; Fabien Gourdon, CCO AERODOM.
The German ambassador in Quisqueya, as well as Chmielorz and Gourdon expressed their satisfaction for the realization of this new direct flight connecting Frankfurt with Puerto Plata and thanked the Ministry of Tourism for the work done to make this operation possible.
They highlighted the efforts made by Minister Collado to guarantee the total recovery of tourism and to ensure that more European visitors continue to prefer the Dominican Republic as their preferred long-haul destination.
During the press trip, the journalists, who will be accompanied by Petra Cruz, director of the OPT of Germany, will have an extensive agenda, where they will be able to see first hand the diversity of the tourist offer of La Novia del Atlántico, such as Cayo Arena, 27 waterfalls of Damajagua, Calle las Sombrillas, Greeland Bubbel Glamping, Playa Alicia, Punta Rucia, among others.
They will also be visiting the Senator, Gran Ventana, Casa Marina Bay, Heavens, Sunscape, Blue Bay, Casa Colonial, Emotions hotels, among others, where they verify the quality of the services offered and compliance with safety and health standards.
The welcome ceremony, which was enlivened by the MITUR folkloric ballet, directed by Professor Oscar Batista, was also attended by Birgit Heinsen and César José de los Santos, president of the Puerto Plata Cluster and the Playa Dorada Association of Hotels and Condominiums, respectively, as well as representatives of Aerodom, Immigration and other institutions linked to the tourism sector.
