AR enters to compete indirectly with Dominican Arajet
After four and a half years, Aerolíneas Argentinas will resume operations between Córdoba (COR), Argentina, and Punta Cana (PUJ), RD, one of the most popular vacation destinations for Argentine tourists.
According to Aerolíneas Argentinas’ reservation system, flights between Córdoba and Punta Cana will begin on September 13 and will be operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, making the route the eleventh longest of the model, covering 5,538 kilometers.
From Córdoba, connections will be offered to and from cities such as Neuquén, Comodoro Rivadavia, Mar del Plata, San Juan, Mendoza, Resistencia, Tucumán or Bariloche, thus opening a new option for the interior of Argentina, according to aviacionline.com.
Cordoba-Punta Cana flight schedule
- Córdoba – Punta Cana flight AR 1326 COR 14:00 – 20:50 PUJ / Fridays and Saturdays.
- Punta Cana – Cordoba flight AR 1327 PUJ 22:05 – 07:00 COR / Fridays and Saturdays.
The new route will complement the four weekly flights departing from Buenos Aires/Ezeiza with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, offering an additional 2,176 seats per week. Indirectly, it competes with Arajet, which offers a daily flight to Santo Domingo/Las Americas with Boeing 737 MAX 8.
Punta Cana is one of the busiest destinations for Aerolíneas Argentinas. According to data from ANAC Argentina, in 2023 the state-owned company transported 78,030 passengers with an occupancy rate of 92%. The National Statistics Office (ONE) of the RD points out that last year some 199,668 Argentines arrived in the Caribbean country, mainly through connections in Lima, Panama City, São Paulo, Miami or Bogota.
Argentina is the second country in South America with the second largest number of tourists visiting the RD and ranks fourth worldwide. The return of Aerolineas Argentinas to Punta Cana from Argentina’s second most important city, in terms of population, will diversify the flow of passengers and contribute to strengthening ties between the two countries.
