Arajet started flight yesterday on the Santiago-Medellín route.

At 8:52 last night, Arajet’s inaugural flight from Santiago de los Caballeros (STI) landed at José María Córdova Airport (MDE), which serves Medellín. This is the low cost carrier’s first route from Cibao International Airport, located in the northern Dominican Republic.

Arajet will operate two weekly flights between the two cities with 740 seats.

“Colombia is the third country of origin of tourists in the Dominican Republic and today we are proud to be the first airline to link Cibao International Airport with José María Córdova International Airport, and this route will strengthen tourism and commercial ties between these cities and will benefit the entire value chain of the economy of both countries,” said Víctor Pacheco Méndez, CEO and founder of Arajet.

Data from the Colombian Association of Travel Agencies Tourism indicate that the Dominican Republic is among the 10 favorite vacation destinations for the Colombian market, having grown 122% in the number of travelers in 2022.

For his part, Javier Andrés Benítez Ríos, Manager of José María Córdova International Airport, said: “Thanks to the commitment and vision of the Arajet airline, today we are inaugurating a new direct route from our Airport: Santiago de los Caballeros, a city in the north of the Dominican Republic and one of the main economic, social and cultural centers of this Caribbean country”.

The Cibao airport administrator, Teófilo Gómezo, said that a connection with Colombia had long been in demand, and that it is even more significant that a Dominican airline such as Arajet has inaugurated it.

Santiago de los Caballeros is the second Dominican city that Arajet connects with Medellin after Santo Domingo.
