DR “very close” to finalizing open skies agreement with US

Congressman Adriano Espaillat, representative of New York’s 13th district, affirmed that talks between the Dominican Republic and the United States are progressing satisfactorily to finalize the open skies agreement in the coming weeks, and said that on behalf of the Dominican-American constituents, he asked U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to sign the modernized open skies agreement between the Dominican Republic and the United States, which would benefit both countries and improve bilateral relations.

“We are fighting for more funds to be allocated to different programs in the Dominican Republic, also for the signing of the open skies agreement that could bring the necessary competitiveness in the face of the high travel prices for the diaspora, who currently have to pay a very high price for travel and prevents them from being able to visit their relatives, we are very close to that signature,” he said.

He stressed that the agreement will contribute to an increase in flights and air routes between the United States and the Dominican Republic, reduce airfare costs for travelers and increase tourism and economic growth for both nations.

The official said that both countries have reached a consensus to sign an open skies agreement, which will reduce airline ticket prices and expand air connectivity.
