The new medallions representing the emblem of each of the nations of the Western Hemisphere will once again adorn Sixth Avenue between 42nd and 59th Streets.
With the participation of city authorities and different Spanish-speaking countries, the coat of arms of the Dominican Republic and other nations were installed this Monday in a ceremony that took place on the Avenue of the Americas and 42nd Street, in the borough of Manhattan.

Vice Consul Yulín Mateo spoke on behalf of Eligio Jáquez, Dominican Consul in New York, alongside Ydanis Rodríguez, New York City Transportation Commissioner, among other personalities who attended the ceremony.
At the ceremony, led by the Mayor’s Transportation Commissioner, Dominican Ydanis Rodríguez, spoke the consuls of Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Brazil, Saint Lucia, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Uruguay, as well as city officials, among them, Manuel Castro, Commissioner of the Office of Immigrant Affairs, Edward Mermelstein, Commissioner of International Affairs of the Mayor’s Office and José Bayona, Executive Director for Ethnic Affairs Community Media of the Mayor’s Office of Erick Adams.
The shields installed were those of the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Haiti, Argentina, St. Lucia and Uruguay, and others will be installed along Avenida de Las Americas from 42nd St. to Canal St. in the coming days.
On behalf of Consul Eligio Jáquez, Vice Consul Julio César Mateo (Yulín) spoke, who said that with the installation of the coat of arms of the Dominican Republic and other countries on Sixth Avenue, the presence of the Hispanic community in this city is strengthened.
“We are the land of the mangú, of great baseball players and beautiful beaches that await you all to enjoy the hospitality of men and women who are always supportive of visitors to our country,” said the consular official.
