Alma adentro opens: Elsa Núñez anthological exhibition

The Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation, Centro León and Banco BHD León opened Alma adentro: Elsa Núñez, an anthological exhibition.

The opening ceremony was led by the Minister of Culture, Carmen Heredia; Dr. María Amalia León, president of the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation and director of Centro León; artist Elsa Núñez; José Javier Dechamps, vice president of Corporate and Business Banking, Northern Zone of Banco BHD León; and Luis Felipe Rodríguez, deputy manager of Cultural Programs.

“With Alma adentro, the exhibition we are dedicating today to Elsa Núñez, the outstanding master of the Dominican visual arts, we feel closer than ever to our founding mission: the promotion and encouragement of culture,” said María Amalia León.

Framed within Centro León’s Great Masters of Dominican Art program, it showcases more than 50 works in five areas: They are: Permanence of Crying, Aesthetic Transpositions, In Praise of Work, Woman. Cycles of life and archetypes and Material experiences.

These areas of the exhibition highlight the key points of Núñez’s pictorial work: the human condition, social demands, the connection with other art disciplines, the female figure and pictorial experimentation.

The anthological exhibition has been curated by Paula Gómez and Miguel Piccini, in addition to the museography of Leticia Moronta and Paula Flores.

An anthological exhibition
This exhibition is called an anthology because, in the words of Sara Hermann, chief curator of the Centro León, “it brings together a selection of works by the artist in which, based on a curatorial approach, the expressive, conceptual and a form of artistic expression and the life trajectory of Elsa Núñez take precedence”.

This exhibition has benefited from the collaboration of 33 private collectors who have contributed pieces of their property to form a broad and diverse panorama of the artist’s body of work. It also includes documents and records of different types, most of them coming from the archival work carried out for decades by her husband, Ángel Haché, with whom she shared her dedication to the arts.

The pedagogical and mediation program aims to bring new questions and perspectives to the exhibition. Each section offers various materials: the artist’s voice, links to other pieces from the Centro León Collection, and questions that trigger individual or group reflection. In the exhibition hall, each section is accompanied by a digital tablet dedicated to the mediation program, which in turn is included in the virtual tour from the Centro León website.

The Centro León Store also offers items related to the artist’s works, the identity of the exhibition and her artistic career.
