“Malpaso” and “Cabarete” continue competing in the VIII Edition of the Platino Iberoamerican Film Awards

The number of participating productions reiterates the strength of the Ibero-American audiovisual industry despite a year and a half of pandemic, in the face of which it has demonstrated its spirit of resilience without stopping its machinery.

The two Dominican productions still in the running are: “Malpaso”, nominated in seven categories, including Best Director, Héctor Valdez; Best Male Performance, Luis Bryan Mesa, and Best Female Performance, Marie Michelle Bazile. Also, “Cabarete”, Opera Prima Ficción and Best Editing Director, Etienne Bousac.

In addition to the aforementioned categories, “Malpaso” is nominated for the following categories: Best Original Score, Pascal Gaigne; Best Art Direction, Adriana Victoria; Best Cinematography, Juan Carlos Gómez, and Best Sound Direction, Denis Godoy.

Prior to the awards ceremony to be held on October 3 at IFEMA Palacio Municipal, the four finalists in each category will be announced and will be revealed shortly.

The Platino Ibero-American Film Awards, promoted by Entidad de Gestión de Derechos de los Productores Audiovisuales (EGEDA), with Federación Iberoamericana de Productores Cinematográficos y Audiovisuales (FIPCA) and with the support of the Ibero-American Film Academies and Institutes, bring together the great talents of the industries of the 23 Ibero-American countries, extolling the most outstanding productions and creators of each year with twenty-two awards and a Platinum Honorary Award.

They have been working since their first edition in 2014 on the dissemination of Ibero-American cinema, so that the successes achieved at the most prestigious festivals also translate into excellent results in commercial theaters and that our cinema has the distribution it deserves.

This list of the Platinum Awards is the second filter after the announcement of pre-selections, and it selects the productions that will compete for the nomination. The selected films are included in a list of 20 nominations for each category from which the nominees will be chosen, 4 nominations per category, which will compete for the statuette.

Attached is a complete list of the 20 nominations per category for the VIII edition of the Platino Ibero-American Film and Audiovisual Awards.
