Melissa Núñez, a native of La Vega, was crowned last October as Miss DR Community USA and became the first candidate selected to participate in this year’s Miss DR Universe.
Núñez, a representative of the Dominican diaspora, went to the United States to study after a year and a half studying medicine at Universidad Católica del Cibao (Ucateci).
In the United States she obtained a degree in health sciences and psychology.
For the Miss DR USA community, education is the “weapon” that allows people to get where they want to go.
“With this Miss Republic platform I want to encourage them to use education as a weapon, so that they know that too many people can be opened,” shared the young woman on the program “Finishing the morning”.
She has worked in hospitals in New York and, according to what she said in a Dominican television program, she is in charge of receiving patients in emergency rooms who present substance abuse.
Melissa Núñez became the first queen selected by Misses of DR, an institution in New York that prepares young models to participate in the different beauty pageants on Dominican soil.
Núñez hopes to replicate the work of her predecessors, Andreína Martínez and Mariana Downing, who, like her, represented the Dominican diaspora in the United States and represented the DR at Miss Universe.
In the case of Martinez, the young woman was selected as the second runner-up for the 2022 pageant in New Orleans, United States.
The Miss DR Universe called for casting for the pageant, which is scheduled for September.
