MESCYT triple le nombre de cours d’immersion en anglais à Pedernales

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT) announced an increase in the number of places in the English Immersion Program to promote competitiveness in Pedernales and other provinces of the South, following the take-off of tourism in the region.

The head of the institution, Franklin García Fermín, informed that in the 2023 call they had 120 spaces available in the province of Pedernales, however for this 2024 they have a total of 300, while in Barahona from 506 they increased to 1265 spaces, likewise in Elías Piña, Independencia, San Juan and Azua there will be a greater participation of young people, who will be able to be trained in a second language.

“This substantial increase seeks that the locals of the entire Southern Region who will be impacted by tourism and business development, once the tourism development of Pedernales is completed, have the necessary knowledge to acquire quality jobs, which will help them to improve their lives, those of their families and therefore contribute to the economy of our nation,” he said.

He also indicated that the present Luis Abinader has shown the greatest willingness to expand the program in the provinces of the country as part of the National Bilingualism Strategy that has the goal of promoting the social development of the people.
