Abinader inaugurates fishermen’s port in Puerto Plata and announces important investments

President Luis Abinader led the inauguration ceremony of the fishermen’s pier in the bay of Puerto Plata, together with Mauricio Hamui president of the company Puerto Plata Port ITM Group.

The company that is building the new tourist port of Taino Bay in this city, announced that it will be ready in the coming months and will receive 750,000 tourists in its first year.

While the executive director of the Dominican Port Authority, Jean Luis Rodriguez stressed that the fishing sector has been forgotten over time but that the president has welcomed the project and all initiatives in favor of this sector, of which this is the first fishing pier.

Similarly, President Luis Abinader emphasized that just as they have complied in Puerto Plata with the fishermen, they are working in 14 ports in the country, “a reflection of the government’s willingness to support this sector”.

He said that the government is carrying out a project called Pesca Segura (Safe Fishing) and that they are looking for solutions to the difficulties that some have had in accessing loans from Promipyme, as well as the inclusion of fishermen in the National Health Insurance.

The President led a wide tour in different points of the province, which began in Sosúa where he announced together with the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, a set of works for the rescue and reorganization of the beach of that community with a total investment of 350 million pesos.

He expressed that the government is supporting the municipality of Sosúa in the construction of the municipal funeral home, the court of Los Castillos and a baseball stadium with a total investment of 28 million pesos. In addition to the construction of the fire station and the Civil Defense headquarters with an investment of 33 million pesos.

During the ceremony, the President announced a contribution of 55 million pesos, of which he delivered a first 20 percent to the Puerto Plata City Hall for the beautification of three important avenues of the city, Hermanas Mirabal, President Caamaño and Luis Ginebra avenues, at the request of Mayor Roquelito García.

Later he went to the community of Yásica where, together with the Minister of Public Works, he inaugurated the reconstruction of the Luperón tourist road, a 40.3 kilometer stretch between Puerto Plata and Santiago, built with an investment of 4,245 million pesos, which, according to what he said, was received with 40 percent of execution.

The head of state also led the inauguration of the remodeling works of the temple of Las Americas and announced the remodeling of the historic city.

Lunch with agricultural leaders

Abinader participated in a lunch with agricultural leaders in the community of Vuelta Larga in the municipality of Imbert.

He then gave the first kick-off for the second stage of the wind energy project Los Guzmancitos, of the company Poseidon renewable energies, which will complete when finished the 100 megawatts of clean energy. The first stage, inaugurated in 2019, will contribute 48 megawatts to the national energy system.

The president also gave the first kick of the construction of a new set of villas within the Lifestyle resort in Cofresí Puerto Plata.

After the inauguration of the fishermen’s port, the president briefly visited the tourist attractions of the city center, the street of the umbrellas and the alley of Mrs. Blanca Franceschini de Rainieri.
