Abinader discusses strengthening counterpart Gustavo Petro

The Dominican President was joined at the meeting by Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez and Dominican Ambassador to Colombia, Julio Cordero.

President Luis Abinader and his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, held a meeting at the Colombian Foreign Ministry headquarters to discuss issues of interest to both nations.

During the meeting, the leaders discussed the strengthening of diplomatic, economic, cultural and tourism relations between the two countries.

It is recalled that currently to increase tourism there is a strong interest in increasing air connections between the two nations, as the Dominican airlines Arajet seeks to operate commercial air services to at least six terminals in the South American country from Santo Domingo and Air Century recently inaugurated a direct flight to Barranquilla from the Dominican capital.

Furthermore, during the meeting, Abinader took the opportunity to formally invite Petro to the Ibero-American Summit, to be held in Santo Domingo in March 2023.

President Petro was accompanied by his Foreign Minister, Alvaro Leyva and the Vice Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Laura Gil and Francisco Coy.

Prior to the meeting with President Petro, the Dominican President held a meeting with outgoing President Iván Duque.
