Reaching the heart of the Northern Cordillera, President Luis Abinader inaugurated this Friday the Juan Veras-Las Yayitas highway, for the benefit of hundreds of families of this livestock and agricultural area.
During the ceremony, the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Deligne Ascención Burgos, informed that the construction, of approximately six kilometers of the Juan Veras-Las Yayitas road, had been demanded for years by the residents and that it will promote the development and tourism in the mountains.
Ascención Burgos pointed out that when President Luis Abinader took over the management of the Dominican Republic in 2020, he instructed to conclude the works of the Gregorio Luperón tourist road, which had been stopped for a long time.
He said that the works of said highway were resumed through a law proposed by the legislators of this province, which basically made it possible to finish a work that had already exhausted its 25% ceiling.
He also added that: “with this we not only concluded the works of La Turística, but we added new works already finished, such as the Guazumal- La Cumbre road and another one that connects with the Juan Veras-Palo Alto road that the president inaugurated several months ago”.
In this sense, the minister explained that other works are being developed around and in the surroundings of La Turística, up to Yásica.
“Around La Turística highway, the investment made by your government, through the Ministry of Public Works and Communications, exceeds RD 4,000 million”, highlighted Ascención Burgos.
He also said that this work is an inclusive development that involves all communities, creating a virtuous circle in which those who live in the big cities can benefit, as is the communication between Santiago and Puerto Plata, as well as those who live in smaller communities.
He also announced that by instructions of President Abinader the 2 kilometers that are missing to reach Pedro Garcia and a play (if they get the land), will be included in the contract to be carried out by the government.
Accompanying President Luis Abinader were governor Rosa Santos; the mayor of Santiago, Ulises Rodríguez; senator Eduardo Estrella; senator-elect Daniel Rivera; Edenorte administrator Andrés Cueto; the general director of the Santiago Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation (Coraasan), engineer Andrés Burgos, and businessman Manuel Estrella.
