Dominican tourism exceeds pre-pandemic levels in April by 11.5%

The Dominican Republic has received 203,000 foreigners so far in April, 103% more than in April 2021 and 11.5% more than in 2019, before the covid-19 pandemic, Tourism Minister David Collado reported.

“Despite the significant loss of Russian and Ukrainian tourists, our tourism continues to grow and April will be one of the best months” for the sector, Collado posted on his Twitter profile, where he recalled that the strategy “has been to recover the Canadian market that remained closed”.

Of the total number of tourists received during this period, 30 % are from the United States and 11 % from Canada, followed by tourists from England, Colombia, France, Germany and Spain.

62 % of the visitors arrived in the country through the Punta Cana airport, in the east, and 22 % through the Las Americas International Airport, in the capital, said the Minister.

The Ministry of Tourism told Efe that April is expected to be one of the best months in recent years for the sector, according to the figures for the first nine days of the month.
