Environment strengthened its digital infrastructure

In response to the growing demand for digital services and the implementation of new information systems of national impact, the Directorate of Information Technology and Communication of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MMARN) implemented major improvements in its technological infrastructure.

This was highlighted by the Minister of the Environment, Miguel Ceara Hatton, who praised the work of the entire team of the Information and Communication Technology Directorate of the MMARN, headed by Luz Felix.

Ceara Hatton shared a moment with the technology team during a visit to the area, accompanied by the Vice Minister of Climate Change and Sustainability, Milagros De Camps, and other members of his team.

During the conversation, Luz Felix emphasized that “to ensure the operability of their IT systems, we have migrated the existing infrastructure to a state-of-the-art hyperconvergent solution and this has been possible thanks to the hard work of the entire team”.

He explained that improving the physical conditions of the Data Center made it possible for it to meet the necessary standards, with a precision air conditioning system.

He indicated that, although it had been designed for a useful life of 5 years, the ministry’s technological equipment had been in use for about 15 years, which created problems of overheating and damage to communication equipment, such as switches, servers or routers.

“The new hyper-converged infrastructure has a processing capacity of 370 gigahertz, 4 Terabytes of RAM, 310 terabytes of storage and 200 terabytes destined for information backup,” highlighted Felix.

He indicated that the improvements will allow the Ministry of the Environment to handle current and future data processing demands more efficiently, and thanked the commitment with which the management of Ceara Hatton assumed the process of strengthening the technology area to guarantee a timely service to the citizens.

“We have also implemented a modern modular data center designed to protect the technological infrastructure. This data center is equipped with a comprehensive monitoring and video surveillance system, access control, door opening sensors, temperature, humidity, smoke and fire,” he said.

It also has a redundant uninterruptible power system and a redundant air conditioning system, which guarantees the physical integrity of the equipment and operational continuity.

These improvements in the technological infrastructure and physical conditions of the data center are essential to ensure the continued operability and security of the ministry’s IT systems.

With the acquisition of this advanced computer equipment, the Directorate of Information Technology and Communication guarantees data security, interoperability, robust infrastructure and also maintains the commitment with the implementation of new technological platforms.

Luz emphasized that the strengthening of the technological infrastructure will contribute to efficiency, transparency and accountability in the provision of services, both to citizens and the institution, reaffirming the commitment of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources with the modernization and continuous improvement in the management of its digital resources.
