Minister of Industry and Commerce in Miami promotes the Logistics Hub of the Dominican Republic

The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes of the Dominican Republic, Ito Bisonó, led a meeting at the World Trade Center Miami (WTCM) with representatives of shipping lines. The purpose of the meeting was to explore investment opportunities and strengthen the Dominican Republic’s position as a world-class logistics hub.

In this strategic meeting, Bisonó was accompanied by the former US ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS) and president of Estrategia Continental, Carlos Trujillo. Together, they spoke with senior executives of well-known shipping companies such as Crowley Corporation, Tropical Shipping and Seaboard Marine.

Among the prominent participants were Brett Bennett, Senior Vice President of Crowley Corporation; Jennifer Nugent-Hill, Director of Government and Community Affairs of Tropical Shipping; and Armando Varona, Director of Business Development of Seaboard Marine. The presence of these industry leaders highlights the importance of the meeting and the interest their companies have in investing in the Dominican Republic.

Also in attendance were Jaak Rannik, President of the Dominican Shippers Association; Augusto Reyes, Board Member of Swisher Dominicana; and Lenny Feldman, representative of Sandler Travis & Rosenberg/Hanesbrands. The diversity of actors present at the meeting reinforces the public-private collaboration and the joint commitment to boost logistics growth in the country.

During the meeting, various strategies and opportunities were discussed to consolidate the Dominican Republic as a logistics center of excellence. Port expansion projects, infrastructure modernization and improvements in transportation and logistics processes were explored. Representatives of shipping lines expressed their interest in taking advantage of the Caribbean country’s potential as a platform for international trade.

Minister Ito Bisonó highlighted the importance of this meeting and emphasized the Dominican government’s commitment to facilitate investments and promote a favorable environment for the logistics sector. “Our goal is to turn the Dominican Republic into a strategic distribution center for the Americas, and we are working tirelessly to make this a reality,” he said.

The meeting at the World Trade Center Miami was a key step in the momentum of the Dominican Republic Logistics Hub. It is expected that this meeting will lay the groundwork for future collaborations and investment projects that will strengthen the country’s position as a logistics benchmark in the region.
