The Ibero-American Social Security Organization (OISS) recognized this Friday President Luis Abinader for his outstanding and significant contribution to health and social security in the Dominican Republic, as well as for his invaluable contributions to the Defense of Citizens’ Rights in Social Security, through the DIDA model for the Ibero-American region.
The Head of State was recognized during the closing ceremony of the first International Diploma Course on the Defense of Citizens’ Rights in Social Security, organized by the General Directorate of Information and Defense of Social Security Affiliates (DIDA).
During the recognition of the President, the Secretary General of the Ibero-American Social Security Organization, Gina Riaño, affirmed that the attendance of President Luis Abinader underlines his firm commitment to social security, essential for the economic and social welfare of Ibero-American citizens and the welfare of Dominicans abroad.
He added that this commitment has been translated into various concrete measures with the expansion of national health insurance coverage, the improvement of protection for domestic workers, the avoidance of social problems in the most vulnerable populations and the strengthening of the institutional framework.
He also recognized the invaluable role of the Dominican Republic and its social security institutions.
This event aims to educate the populations of the Dominican Republic, Mexico, El Salvador, Bolivia and Argentina, among other countries in the Ibero-American region on social security issues.
At the event, the President expressed that it is a great honor, but above all a great commitment, to continue working in favor of the social security of Dominicans.
Likewise, the President highlighted the achievements made, such as the total coverage of family health insurance. “We have also advanced in total family health insurance coverage, but we will continue to face the other challenges we have in terms of pensions and co-payment, to improve the quality of service for all Dominicans,” he said.
President Abinader also emphasized the importance of collaboration between different sectors of society to strengthen the social security system. “In this social security system we are all working together in the Dominican Republic, the union system, the business sector and the government sector.”
The President emphasized that the best way to move forward is through consensus, with justice and in compliance with the law, to improve the coverage and quality of life of the population.
DIDA as an entity for the protection of affiliates
Carolina Serrata Méndez, Director General of the Directorate of Information and Defense of Social Security Affiliates (DIDA), affirmed that in the administration headed by President Luis Abinader, they have provided around 5 million assistance to users, with a satisfaction rate of 96% in the services of the DIDA.
He said that, within these figures, they have issued more than 30,220 health coverage letters for public sector employees, serving the DIDA as a protection entity.
He also added that they have handled more than 125,266 complaints, claims and denunciations, maintaining a level of satisfaction above 96% among affiliates.
With this educational event, the DIDA reaffirms its commitment to educate citizens through the courses organized by the Social Security School.
Signing of an inter-institutional agreement
At the event, an inter-institutional agreement was signed between the Salvadoran Social Security Institute (ISSS) and the General Directorate of Information and Defense of Social Security Affiliates (DIDA), to replicate the unique model of orientation and advocacy of the DIDA in the ISSS.
The event was attended by the Ministers, of Health Victor Atallah; of Labor, Luis Miguel De Camps; the Mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejia; the Ombudsman, Pablo Ulloa; the rector of the PUCMM, Reverend Father Dr. Secilio Espinal; the Attorney General of Colombia, Margarita Cabello Blanco, among others.
