The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Francisco Camacho, is not surprised by the positive results registered so far by the Dominican Republic’s delegation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Camacho valued as extraordinary the participation achieved by the large group of athletes in the event that brings together the best exponents of the world in different sports disciplines.
Minister Camacho referred to the subject during a visit paid to him by the president of the Dominican Weightlifting Federation, Williams Ozuna, to thank the government for its support, without which two of his athletes would have reached the podium at the Tokyo Games.
Camacho returned early Monday morning from Japan, where he had been since the opening of the Games giving his backing to the Dominican athletes.
“I never had any doubts that our boys would put the name of the country on high in Tokyo 2020, a fact that has been demonstrated by the decent performance they have shown in the various competitions in which they have participated,” said Camacho.
In that sense, he said that it was a genuine combination of factors, which included a great training base, timely delivery of resources so that the different sports federations did not have the slightest inconvenience for the preparation of their delegations, among others.
He highlighted the fact that the Government presided by Luis Abinader gave precise instructions from the very beginning so that each one of the federations received in time the necessary resources so that their athletes could prepare, attend their qualifiers and arrive at the Olympic Games in optimal conditions.
