President Luis Abinader and the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ito Bisonó, informed that the free zones have generated around 200 thousand direct jobs in the last four years, of which 53% correspond to women.
There are currently 85 free zone parks in the country, which are home to 850 companies, which in turn employ almost half a million people, being considered as “the factory of employment.
Another achievement in this area for the Dominican Republic is that technological manufacturing companies have already been installed.
He also stated that, to date, 1,800 items have been exported to more than 143 countries around the world.
Regarding the records in accumulated investment, there was a relative growth, according to the head of state, of 44.5 %, being in 2020 of 5,189 and by 2023, of 7,496.
These statements were made by the President during the LA Semanal con la Prensa. The same was held at the Las Cariátides hall of the National Palace.
On the subject of direct jobs, the President pointed out that they have reached the highest level in history. This, since in June 2020 there were only 119,974 and by June 2024 there are 198,466 direct jobs, for a 65.4%. “More than 78,492 new direct formal jobs in only four years”.
