Charlie Aponte, “The Dean of Salsa”, returns to the Dominican Republic to celebrate half a century in music in a night for history, at the Hard Rock Café at Blue Mall, on Saturday, August 3 at 9:00 pm.
“La historia continúa”, under the general production of RR Producciones, is the name of the concert in which the former vocalist of El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico will perform his new promotional song ‘Así’, written by Colombian salsa singer Willy García, as well as his greatest hits.
For 41 years Aponte was the vocalist of the Universidad de la Salsa, “El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico”, a group in which he performed the hits “Brujería”, “Un verano en New York” “Amor brutal”, “No hay cama pa’ tanta gente”, “Arroz con habichuelas” “Trampolín”, “Sin condición alguna”, among many others.
During his extensive career, Charlie Aponte has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contribution to Latin music, including multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy awards.
Carlos Juan Aponte Cruz, born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, on February 2, 1951, joined what was then called “Los Mulatos del Sabor”, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, in 1973, replacing Pellín Rodríguez.
After more than four decades as a vocalist in this group he decided to embark on his solo career, in 2014, with the album “Una nueva historia” and since then he has kept captivating the public and consolidating himself as one of the most important exponents of salsa.
