DR, the fourth largest gateway for U.S. travelers

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Aviation Transportation, Annie Petsonk, highlighted during the signing of the open skies agreement, held last Friday at the National Palace, that the Dominican Republic is the fourth international gateway for U.S. travelers.

Petsonk highlighted that, most people fly between the United States, Mexico and Canada, and the route between the United Kingdom and the American nation, which is also busy, but, Dominican Republic is part of the list, occupying the fourth place with more than 10 million passengers in the last 12 months.

“The U.S. Department of Transportation and our Dominican counterparts have worked together to make sure that this market supports the needs of our countries and our people, this sometimes highlights that for air travelers to and from the United States, the Dominican Republic is the fourth largest international passenger gateway,” said the undersecretary, as reported by Diario Libre.

Similarly, Petsonk maintained that when it comes to air connectivity, the Dominican Republic has always risen to the challenge. “Our relationship with aviation is one of the oldest this year We are celebrating the 75th anniversary of that relationship that we signed our first aviation agreement in 1949 and 80 years ago, both the United States and the Dominican Republic were among the original 52 signatories to the Chicago Convention, which provides the overall framework for much of our work in the field of aviation.”
