Improvements in the health sector highlighted

The executive director of the National Health Service (SNS), Mario Lama, highlighted the improvements achieved during the administration headed by President Luis Abinader in the health sector, where more than 50 hospitals and around 580 first level centers have been renovated and equipped in the Dominican Republic.

“There is not a province in the Dominican Republic that has not had an advance in its public service network,” assured Lama this Friday, during the award ceremony of the fourth edition of the ‘SNS Performance Program’ Award held at the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

Likewise, Lama highlighted that all this is fulfilling the mission of President Abinader who gave the mandate to raise the quality of health care, that health in the country should not be a privilege but a right. He added that President Abinader is the driving force behind the entire SNS team, which is acting in accordance with what he wants to do.

The president was accompanied by the first lady Raquel Arbaje at the award ceremony, which seeks to promote the strengthening of the provision of services in the centers of the Public Health Network.

Ninth anniversary of the SNS

The award ceremony, held as part of the ninth anniversary of the SNS, recognized the management of 12 hospitals, three diagnostic centers, two regional centers and two central level offices.

In order to select the winners, an evaluation that exceeds the threshold established as a goal for each category was considered, taking into account the average in the three components of the program: Administrative and Financial (50%), Clinical Management (40%) and User Satisfaction (10%).

Winning hospitals

In the category “Best Hospital Self-Management Performance”, the following hospitals were recognized: Traumatológico Dr. Ney Arias Lora, first place; Pediátrico Dr. Hugo Mendoza, second place; and Materno Infantil San Lorenzo de Los Minas, third place; all three located in Santo Domingo.

In the category “Best Regional Hospital Performance”, the José María Cabral y Báez Hospital in Santiago won first place, second place went to the Ing. Luis L. Bogaert Regional Hospital in Mao, Valverde, and third place went to the Dr. Darío Contreras Traumatology Hospital in Santo Domingo.

In the category “Best Provincial Hospital Performance”, the Elio Fiallo Provincial Hospital of Pedernales obtained the highest score for first place; in second place was the San Bartolomé Hospital of Neiba, Bahoruco, and in third place was the Ángel Contreras Hospital of Monte Plata.

In the category “Best Municipal Hospital Performance”, the winners were Dr. Luis Espaillat Hospital in Sabana Iglesia, Santiago; Nuestra Señora del Carmen Hospital in Padre las Casas and Guayabal Hospital, both in Azua.

Diagnostic Centers, regional and directorates awarded prizes

In the category “Best Clinical and Diagnostic Center Performance”, the Santo Domingo Health Center won first place; second place went to Zone F and third place to Mamá Tingó, all three located in Santo Domingo.

In the category “Best Regional Health Service Performance”, the Metropolitano won first place and El Valle, second.

President Abinader presented the award in the category “Best Performance of the SNS Central Level Directorates”, where the Clinical Laboratories and Imaging, first place, and Infrastructure and Equipment, second place, were awarded.

“We are delighted to present, for the fourth consecutive year, our ‘SNS Performance Program’ award. We want this action to motivate all the collaborators of the Public Network to continue giving their best every day, so that together we can achieve the transformation that we desire in our health centers,” concluded Dr. Lama.

The event was attended by the Minister of Health, Victor Atallah; the senator-elect for the province of Santiago, Daniel Rivera, and the general director of the Essential Medicines Program and Central Logistics Support (Promese/CAL), Adolfo Pérez.

Also, the national treasurer, Luis Delgado; the general manager of Social Security, Edward Guzman; the executive director of Indoppril, Fausto Lopez and the executive president of Conani, Luisa Ovando.
