Dominican Republic wins gold against Mexico in U12 Pan American Championship

Previously, the Caribbean team had achieved the historic qualification to the world championship of the category to be held in the summer of 2022 in Taiwan.
The U12 team of the Dominican Republic defeated Mexico 8-2 in the Grand Final of the Pan American U12 Championship of the Pan American Baseball Confederation.

The Dominican team defeated the locals in Aguascalientes and won the gold medal of the tournament and had previously qualified for the World Cup in Taiwan to be held in the summer of 2022 with a date yet to be defined.

The Dominican Republic had knocked out 12-time medalist Venezuela in the semifinal.

The tournament was previously scheduled to be held in the summer of 2021 but was postponed due to issues related to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Dominican Republic had lost its first two games in the tournament.

In 1989 they played their last final in the category, where they won their only Pan American title in Santo Domingo.

According to COPABE, the Dominican Republic wins the gold medal 32 years later. The Dominican Republic is ranked 6th in the WBSC world ranking.

Soon the Dominican U23 team will have a commitment in the U23 World Cup to be held in Sonora, Mexico. The Dominican Republic shares Group A with Chinese Taipei, Cuba, Czech Republic, Germany and the hosts.
