With an enriched agenda of cultural and economic events, Dominican Week will be celebrated for the first time in the city of Berlin, Germany, from September 11 to 15 of this year.
The announcement was made during a cocktail offered at the residence of the German ambassador, Maike Friedrichsen.
The event is a joint effort of the German-Dominican Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, the German Embassy in the Dominican Republic and the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Germany.
“We are very excited about the celebration of this first edition of the event where we will be able to position the Dominican Republic as one of the best investment countries,” commented Karsten Paul Windeler, president of the German-Dominican Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.
For her, this is a great cultural, commercial and diplomatic meeting that will create an ideal space for the promotion of Dominican products and exports, as well as for German suppliers and companies that want to make the Dominican Republic the logistic hub for their products.
The Dominican Republic with its 84 free trade zones and five seaports is an attractive location for foreign trade. It is one of the main producers of organic bananas and cocoa, tobacco and coffee for the German market. It has 90 German companies and brands based and represented in the country. The importance of economic relations also translates into 130 member companies of the German-Dominican Chamber of Commerce, he said.
“The ties between the Dominican Republic and the German economy, which is the largest in the European Union and the fourth largest worldwide, are constantly strengthening. This year we also celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries. They will be celebrated on September 11, 2023, which will be the first day of the First Dominican Week in Berlin,” said Maike Friedrichsen, German Ambassador to the Dominican Republic.
She commented that it is expected to strengthen the ties and the existing economic exchange between both countries, as well as to establish new relationships and friendships.
The cocktail was attended by the Minister of Industries, Commerce and MYPIMES, Victor Bisonó, who announced his participation in the Dominican Week in September. He underlined in his speech the strong ties between the Dominican Republic and Germany, and thanked the German development cooperation in the country for many years. He also thanked the members of the Dominican-German Chamber, ministers, businessmen and directors of various public institutions.
For the Dominican week, the leading local public entities that will support and promote bilateral relations between countries have already confirmed their participation. These include the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, Pro-Dominicana, the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the General Directorate of Cinema and the General Directorate of Customs.
An award will also be given to the most outstanding Dominican in Germany in recent years.
The opening ceremony will be held on September 11 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs accompanied by various German authorities and will be attended by the Dominican Ambassador to Germany, H.E. Francisco Caraballo and the German Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, H.E. Maike Friedrichsen, together with German businessmen and the delegation accompanying them from the Dominican Republic.
