Dominican Republic will host the Sub-Zonal 2.3.5 chess championship with the support of the Ministry of Sports.

The Dominican Republic will host the Sub-Zonal 2.3.5 international chess championship, which is a qualifier for the world chess championship, an event that will be held from November 7 to 14 of this year in Juan Dolio.

The details were offered by the president of the Dominican Chess Federation, Lic. Pedro Domínguez Brito accompanied by FIDE Master Braulio Ramírez, who emphasized that the Sub-Zonal chess tournaments are events organized by FIDE as part of the qualifying process for the world chess championship.

He emphasized that from 1951 to 1996, they are disputed by the players classified in the zonal tournaments (tournaments between countries of each zone, our zone of the Dominican Republic is the 2.3.5, which groups 20 countries of different federations of the FIDE, this event grants places to participate in the qualifying candidates tournament for the world chess championship, it will have the support of the Dominican government, through the Ministry of Sports.

The countries that will compete in the international championship are the Dominican Republic as host, the Netherlands Antilles, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, British Virgin Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.

The international event will be disputed in both branches at the HODELPA hotel in Juan Dolio, San Pedro de Macoris.

Domínguez Brito, president of the Dominican Chess Federation, thanked in advance the collaboration offered by the Minister of Sports, Francisco Camacho, as well as the highest authorities of the Dominican Olympic Committee, EDESUR and the Banco de Reservas.

He said that the many national federations of the zone have already begun to notify and formalize their registrations for the event that could gather hundreds of athletes who will seek to qualify for the world championship.

“We expect the participation of the other federations associated to Zone 2.3.5”, said the president of the Dominican Chess Federation.

The Subzonal 2.3.5 Championship, is held every two years, its last edition took place in Jamaica Kinston in June 2018, where our country added to its record 6 new international titles.

The technical direction of the international event will be in charge of the international arbiters Parménides Guerrero and Wilfredo Paulino.
