Dominican participation in the Hispanic Heritage Week 2023 concludes

The Dominican Republic’s participation in Hispanic Week 2023 concluded with concerts by Dominican artists Xiomara Fortuna and Riccie Oriach, with an audience that enjoyed and danced to Caribbean lyrics and rhythms.

The third edition of the festival, organized by the community of Madrid, was dedicated to the Dominican Republic, in which during a week that ended on October 14, they presented the best of their music, theater, cinema, literature, plastic arts, dance and gastronomy.

The agenda began on Tuesday, October 3 with the exhibition “Reflections of the Caribbean: Dominican Art in Madrid” by artists Jeannette Alfau, Luís Núñez, Dahianna Blanco, Manolo Romero, Taína Almodóvar, Aronis Ramos, Waner Noboa, Erickdony Turbí and Carlos Segura. The event was held at the AN-A Foundation, Madrid.

The Vice President of the Dominican Republic, Raquel Peña, on her official trip to India, stopped in Madrid to attend the activities of the Hispanic Week and on Saturday, October 7, she visited the exhibition where she greeted the artists, who were waiting for her to comment on their works.

At 12 noon on Saturday and with the presence of the vice-mandatary Raquel Peña and the Dominican ambassador in Spain, Juan Bolívar Díaz, the gastronomic demonstration was carried out by the Dominican chef Omar Martín, together with the Spanish chef Pepa Muñoz. Chef Martín delighted the attendees with the preparation of the famous Quisqueyan breakfast “Los tres golpes” gourmet version. The event was presided over by Mr. Mariano de Paco, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Community of Madrid.

At 7:00 p.m., Peña attended, together with Ambassador Juan Bolivar Diaz, the Cavalcade of Hispanidad which featured the “Añoranzas de mi Tierra” parade represented by the Dominican Ballet in Europe and the Activando Cultura Foundation. More than 60 Dominican artists paraded loaded with characteristic elements of the island of merengue and bachata; typical costumes, different carnival characters, music and dance. The parade went through the streets of Bravo Murillo and Fuencarral.
