The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, informed that the DR’s participation in Fitur 2024 closed with 19 new tourism projects that will have a new investment of almost USD 3.5 billion and will provide more than 9,000 new hotel rooms in different poles of the country.
During a breakfast with the press at the well-known Casino de Madrid, together with representatives of the country’s main banks, Minister Collado took stock of the achievements made during the Fitur fair, which began on Wednesday and will last until Sunday.
He informed that currently a route has been outlined to develop 19 new hotel projects in the next 3 years, which will provide 9,135 rooms, with an estimated investment of USD 3.5 billion.
“Of those rooms, 2,048 are expected to be operating by the summer-winter period this year and another 3,106 by 2025,” the official said.
He recalled that within the framework of Fitur, important agreements were signed with airlines, travel agencies and tour operators in the region to improve connectivity, position the destination brand, and penetrate new segments.
He indicated that a total of 16 agreements were signed, including 3 with airlines, 11 with tour operators and 2 with travel agencies.
“These agreements seek to attract 322,000 passengers, generating more than USD 280 million and impacting directly and indirectly with 26,000 jobs,” said Minister Collado, who answered questions from journalists.
He highlighted the importance of the agreements signed with Iberia, Air Europa Edelwise, Avoris, Nautalia, Soltour, eDreams and Viajes El Corte Inglés, among others.
Minister Collado said that 53% of the meetings were aimed at attracting investment, with travel agencies and tour operators.
“Today we finish the commercial round of the most important International Tourism Fair for the DR, Fitur. We leave full of satisfaction and with a full and challenging work agenda,” concluded Minister Collado.
