DR wins Globus Award for “Best Tourist Office in Germany”

The Dominican Republic shines again, being recognized at the Globus Awards for the “Best Tourism Office in Germany”, reaffirming the work carried out by the Ministry of Tourism in international markets so that more tourists continue to arrive and thus strengthen the country’s economy.

Quisqueya was awarded among 158 foreign tourism offices in that European nation for the 2021-2022 period. The choice for this award was based on the work done by each country to maintain the interest of this outbound market.

Among the criteria taken into account was the support received with the information on the changes in travel restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic. These were based on the communication and availability of the service provider during the crisis in general.

As well as, the support from the office for the re-launching of the destination, such as marketing campaigns, training and familiarization trips, among others.

Petra Cruz, director of the Dominican Republic’s Tourism Promotion Office (OPT) in Germany, said that this award received by the country is the result of the constant work and strategies carried out by the Ministry of Tourism, headed by Minister David Collado.

“During the pandemic, our office maintained permanent communication with travel agents, with the entire tourism sector and Germans, sending regular bulletins on the current situation in the country, and this led to them being properly informed about the protocols implemented by the Tourism Cabinet during the COVID-19 crisis,” said Cruz.

Part of the strategy carried out by OPT was the forwarding of calls from the office to a telephone that was always answered on a rotating basis by an employee of the office, during working hours, to answer the sector’s questions.

The Lockdown was also used to completely overhaul the E-Learning and relaunch it, training some 4,900 travel agencies. As well as through Webinars.

The OPT director indicated that when the market opened, following instructions from the Minister of Tourism, the resumption of flights was negotiated and coordinated, which took place in December 2020.

Also, in May 2021, a Mega Fam Trip was held to relaunch the destination with 150 travel agents, tour operators and important personalities of the sector, to Puerto Plata and Punta Cana, followed by other Fam Trips until the end of the year 2021.
