Mitur investment in international promotion was RD$496 million in 2021

Dominican Republic. In order to attract new tourists, the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) invested RD$496 million in the promotion of the Dominican Republic in international markets.

This was announced by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, during the inauguration of the Margaritaville Island Reserve Cap Cana, developed by Karisma Hotels & Resorts and Margaritaville.

The official noted that Mitur has saved RD$5,361 million under this concept. “In 2019, the Dominican Republic spent RD$4.4 billion on international promotion and in 2021 RD$496 million was spent.”

Collado highlighted that, despite the reduction in spending on promotion, the country registered records in tourist arrivals in the last quarter of 2021. “In December, the largest number of foreigners registered in the country in the entire history of tourism arrived, with 728,335 foreigners.”

“This has not been achieved by the President, nor by the minister, this has been achieved because the public and private sectors have been unified, leaving aside particular interests to put the Dominican Republic on the table,” he said.
