AERODOM reports record cargo through its Dominican Republic airports

The airports operated by Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (AERODOM) – a subsidiary of VINCI Airports – mobilized 175.1 million pounds of air cargo, a figure that exceeds by 15% the total pounds mobilized in the same period of 2020 and by 11% compared to 2019, setting a new record.

José Francisco Peña Gómez International Airport of the Americas (AILA-JFPG) continues to lead cargo transportation in the country, being the air terminal that mobilizes most of the cargo thanks to eight cargo airlines and more than 20 of commercial flights that carry cargo in the bellies of their aircraft, strengthening the supply of raw materials at a critical time when maritime supply is facing strong tensions.

The growth in cargo activities came after AERODOM and VINCI Airports delivered the Cargo City SDQ in November 2020, which integrated all the actors and services required for air cargo transportation into a single modern space. These new facilities made it possible to expeditiously receive all shipments of COVID-19 vaccines arriving in the Dominican Republic.

Nearly 70% of the air cargo exported through the airports were perishable products (fruits and vegetables) in support of the Dominican production sector, which were transported to the main markets of Europe, the United States and Central America for distribution.
