The story of the Coco Band will be taken to the movies

“Coco Band, the Movie” will be filmed in the next few months, under the production of Francis Disla.

Film director and psychologist Josell Hernández is developing the story of the merengue group Coco Band, which will be made into a film in a co-production with La Aldea Estudios.

Pochy Familia’s Coco Band has a rich history that marked the pop culture of the 1990s, revolutionizing Dominican popular music and generating diverse criticism from the mainstream press.

Despite this, the band achieved great public acceptance, creating a group of fans, called “Los Cocotuses”, who packed the Olympic Stadium in 1992, marking a milestone as the only merengue orchestra to fill that multitudinous stage.

“Coco Band, La Película” will be shooting in the coming months. It will be written and directed by Josell Hernández, who recently released the successful drama “Asalto en Progreso”.

This feature film, also a period piece, was produced by Hernandez and Francis Disla.

For this new project, Hollywood-type sets will be built at La Aldea Studios, said Josell.

Pochy Familia’s biography is a story of resilience, where the dreams of a 12-year-old writer manage to overcome adversity and turn him into a legend.

“For me it is a luxury to make a film about my favorite merengue band. I feel that I don’t work, rather I am blessed to make the story of Coco Band,” expressed Josell Hernandez.
