CCDF Executive Director meets with border legislators

The executive director of the Coordinating Council of the Special Border Development Zone (CCDF), Mr. Erodis Díaz, held a fruitful meeting with border legislators elected for the 2024-2028 term, where he discussed several issues related to the Border Development Law 12-21.

During the activity, which took place with great interest from the congressmen, the executive director spoke about the virtues of the legislation and the challenges faced by the law that will be approved in 2021.

“The objective of this meeting is to motivate the legislators to continue promoting Law 12-21, as well as to encourage them to create the conditions to improve it during this congressional period so that it generates the jobs and social development that this impoverished area of the country needs, tied to the vision of President Luis Abinader”.

In this sense, Diaz, who presented a balance of the four years at the head of the CCDF, affirmed that “the legislators have their new challenge to support the law and contribute to the development of each of the provinces”.

Among the topics presented to the senators and deputies by the executive director of the CCDF, the following can be mentioned:

The number of projects that the institution has received, the number of companies active in Law 12-21, the number of jobs per province that the special regime has, the tax sacrifice, the operation of the procedures for exoneration requests, the investment of companies in the border zone, among other challenges that the Border Development Law has ahead.

Among the attendees were the following senators: Bernardo Alemán (Montecristi), Manuel Rodríguez “Ney” (Dajabón), Augusto Velázquez (Pedernales), Andrés Guillermo Lama Pérez (Bahoruco) and Dagoberto Rodríguez (Independencia). Senator Antonio Marte (Santiago Rodríguez) presented his excuses and sent Estarling Herrera in representation.

The deputies who said present were: Adelso de Jesús Rubén Contreras (Dajabón); Luis Enrique Castillo Ogando and Milly Martínez (Elías Piña); Mery Mercado de Contreras and Rafelín Pérez (Pedernales); Juan Bolívar (Bahoruco); Johanny Margarita Martínez (Montecristi); Nicolás López Mercado and Juana Ramona Castillo (Santiago Rodríguez) and deputy Olfanny Méndez (Bahoruco) designated Cindy Pichardo.

The legislators thanked the CCDF for the invitation, while hoping that the meetings could be held more frequently.

“The truth is that Erodis Díaz has brilliant ideas for the border and for the law, so this team of senators and deputies that are present will support him in all circumstances so that the border region can develop as it should be and more so with a friendly president like Luis Abinader,” said Bernardo Alemán, senator of Montecristi.

Guillermo Lama, senator for the province of Bahoruco, said that the meeting with the legislators and the CCDF was very important because it allowed them to learn about the changes that Law 12-21 has undergone since its approval three years ago.

“We had concerns because we did not know the scope that this law was having in our area. Today we learned that the Council needs support from us legislators,” said Lama.

Meanwhile, the senator for Pedernales, Augusto Velásquez, said that the meeting was also useful for them to know important details of the legislation and thus go out to look for businessmen to invest in the border. “It is a necessity that we are participating in this activity looking for the quality of the development of each province of the border, so we are confident that Law 12-21 will strengthen the economic development of each province”.

At the end, a new meeting was agreed upon to follow up on what was discussed at the first meeting.
