Punta Cana airport receives quality management award

It is the main Dominican air terminal to achieve these certifications in a bid to protect the environment.

Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) obtained the ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 international certifications for its Quality Management and Environmental Management systems, respectively, endorsed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

The certifications were granted and delivered by the Spanish company AENOR.

Ariel Espejo, director of AENOR in the Dominican Republic, said that Punta Cana International Airport is the first in the Dominican Republic to achieve both certifications, which demonstrates the “genuine commitment to excellence and sustainability in its operations”.

He added that the Dominican Republic’s main air terminal has achieved these certifications in a bid to protect theEl Aeropuerto de Puntacana es Seritificado environment, as part of a coherent business strategy that seeks to provide a high quality service to travelers and other groups of users of its services.

Likewise, Alberto Smith, director of Landside Operations, affirmed that the airport’s certification is the endorsement that guarantees the excellence of the service for which it is known, based on the highest standards of quality and sustainability.

The ISO 9001:2015 certification highlights the company’s ability to meet the requirements of applicable regulations and satisfy the needs of travelers “facilitating opportunities to increase their satisfaction and make continuous process improvements”.

While, the ISO 14001:2015 certification shows the airport’s ability to protect the environment and respond to changing environmental conditions with sustainability actions in balance with socioeconomic needs, achieving a healthy environmental performance and complying with multiple legal requirements on the matter.

“With the achievement of these certifications, Punta Cana International Airport seeks a cultural change, bringing the environmental and quality issue to the heart of our organization. Our goal is to standardize, in a comprehensive manner, environmental management and process management, making more efficient use of resources and reducing waste, understanding that this gives us a competitive advantage globally,” said Giovanni Rainieri, director of Airside Operations.

Punta Cana International Airport has had a Quality Management System in place since 2014, which facilitated the achievement of certification and the integration of the Environmental Management System into the organization.
