Senate approves controversial Aerodom contract

The Senate of the DR approved last Wednesday, in a single reading, the concession contract, renewed and reformed, signed by the government with Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) to extend the administration of seven airports in the national territory.

The initiative coming from the Executive Branch did not have the favorable vote of the representatives of the Dominican Liberation Party, the People’s Force and the Dominican Revolutionary Party.

It is recalled that last November, President Luis Abinader announced that the Government extended the airport concession contract with Aerodom.

The president said that this renegotiation “represents a benefit for the DR of between 1,905 and 2,155 million dollars. That is the difference in the negotiations carried out by our government and the previous one”.

During his speech, Abinader added that an agreement was reached which, by guaranteeing a greater participation of the State in the benefits generated by the operation of the airports, will generate resources that will be used for the benefit of Dominicans.
