Punta Cana hosts a meeting between private sector entrepreneurs from Cuba and the Dominican Republic. The event is called Expedition I and is attended by 96 Cuban entrepreneurs.
The meeting between managers of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Cuba has as its main objective to access foreign investment and increase exports. The vice minister for consular and migratory affairs of the Dominican Republic, Jatzel Román, expressed to the press his satisfaction for the development of this activity in the Hispanic Caribbean, because the more opportunities there are in the region, and in this case in Cuba, the more opportunities there will be in the Dominican Republic and vice versa.
In the following days, networking meetings are planned between Cuban MSME managers and the Cuban business sector.
For three days, Dominican and Cuban representatives will discuss the formulas for exporting and importing various products to be sold in the markets of both Caribbean nations.
“It is the first time in more than 60 years that an expedition of independent Cuban businessmen come to the Dominican Republic to participate in work tables to initiate commercial exchanges with small and medium Dominican businessmen,” Maira Valia Collazo Rodríguez, organizer of the international meeting, informed the press.
The Cuban businessmen will present their production tools, based on construction materials, technology, medicines, food products, land transport services and installation of industrial plants, among other aspects of production.
Cuba currently has 3 869 MSMEs, of which 3 764 are private, 51 are state-owned and 54 are cooperatives.
“In this beginning of what could be the departure of major events, multiple business options are lined up waiting for facilities from both countries to develop a financial system that allows the exchange with guaranteed payment through the banking system, without limitations of a sectoral nature,” said one of the organizers of the three-day activity to be held for three days at the Ocean Blue Hotel in Punta Cana.
