Meliá’s milestone: will have the largest convention center in the DR

Architect Álvaro Sans, who is in charge of the new projects being developed by Meliá Hotels International in the Dominican Republic, explained to arecoa.com the recent bet of the chain with the construction of the largest convention center in the East and in the country, as well as two new hotels that will give a new life to Paradisus Punta Cana.

Sans indicated that there will be two hotels with a common and central service area, and at the same time they will be divided into two more hotels in the premium area (facing the sea). “It will be a hotel for families with 570 rooms, 120 of which will be the premium rooms, under the concept of The Reserve brand, and another 380 rooms in the adults-only hotel, with 120 rooms for VIP service.

He detailed that the hotel will have 16 restaurants, the largest convention center in the East zone and the country, because “there is no hotel or any other place in the country that has the room that we will have”. In addition, it will have 15 or 16 adjoining support rooms; for weddings it will have a lawn area outside “which will be, in size, half the size of a soccer field”.

“The whole concept of the hotels is new. It is an evolution of the Paradisus hotels that we are making to be more modern and ecologically it will have a very low environmental footprint, it will pollute very little; it will have all the technologies to be 80% efficient and then we have given much emphasis on the rooms, since half are premium rooms and 50% are junior suites and suites,” he added.

The specialist in hotel program development and basic project architecture of resorts, hotels and residential hotel urbanism, said that the concept of the rooms on the first floor is to give allusion to being on the deck of a ship, the 2 subsequent floors will be standard rooms (although they have a terrace with jacuzzi) and the last one is a great novelty because they will be penthouses throughout the hotel.

“We will give a different experience of views and privacy. It is a very novel hotel because we have designed hotels all over the world and the difference we have with Meliá is that we have developed projects in Asia, Europe, European Mediterranean, Africa, America, Australia… and from all places we have learned, so if you mix everything together this hotel comes out,” he emphasized.

The experienced architect, who heads the company Álvaro Sans Arquitectura Hotelera (ASAH), also recalled that the hotel will be built where the Paradisus Punta Cana is currently located, which will be demolished; the investment will be US$200 million (of the total of 400 million that the hotel chain announced for the works to be carried out in the country) and the execution time will be two years, starting work in January 2022, so it would be ready in 2024.
