Relationship of millionaire’s support to the baseball federation

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec) informed this Thursday that on occasions it has communicated to the national sports federations that the budget of that institution is directed to give priority to the qualifying events corresponding to the Central American and Caribbean Games and the Pan American Games, to be held next year in San Salvador and Chile, respectively.

The organization said that, in addition to this, Miderec invests in the construction, reconstruction and refurbishment of multiple sports facilities, as well as in extraordinary contributions to the federations themselves.

Miderec said, through a press release, that sports is an area of vital interest for the government of President Luis Abinader, as evidenced by the support it has given to the main sports events in the country, as well as others of a regional and municipal nature.

He recalled that despite the fact that the world is going through an extremely difficult economic situation, from which the Dominican Republic does not escape, the Government continues to support sports and recreational activities for the benefit of all sectors of society.

The Ministry of Sports added, however, that it is materially impossible to have a budget to support all the national and international events presented by the national sports federations or other institutions linked to sports.

In that order, he said that the Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedobe) has requested from the Ministry resources for more than 22 million pesos only for the air tickets chapter, to participate in six events that this entity has planned this year.

Miderec highlighted that in the last three and a half years that entity has received from the Dominican State, through that institution, almost 71 million pesos, including more than 11 million pesos in 2020 when national and international sports activities were completely paralyzed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Last year, the Fedobe received from the Ministry of Sports more than 30 million pesos, not including the extraordinary contributions that facilitated the classification of the national team to the Tokyo Olympics and the participation itself in those Olympics, where it achieved a historic bronze medal,” Miderec specified in the statement.

The Ministry of Sports reiterated that its interest is to support all the disciplines practiced in the country, but that it must give priority to the qualifying events for the Central American and Caribbean Games and the Pan American Games, in addition to the Olympic Games.
