Javier Coll, Group President Global Business Development & Innovation of Inclusive Collection part of World of Hyatt, indicated that the Dominican Republic gives higher priority to tourism than Mexico.
“Foreign tourism is not a priority in Mexico,” Coll said, adding that the Dominican Republic has implemented a different policy in this regard, according to REPORTUR.mx.
He explained that “in Mexico there are sometimes some restrictions, especially in terms of environmental permits. In other words, it takes a while to be defined and sometimes we spend years trying to reach a conclusion.”
“I would say that the Dominican Republic has been a little more agile in that, they created a single window, there are people who can help you during the construction process… So I would say it is a little bit ahead,” he said.
Coll, however, assured that both countries “have done relatively well because they are number 1 and 2 in the Caribbean”.
